First Sungold Cherry Tomato

I picked this little beauty from my backyard garden, in all it’s Sun Gold glory. Then I made the mistake of showing it to my 4 year old daughter. She is a tomato fan like I am. The whining was brutal! So we split this tiny morsel in half. Lovely. Now my plants better hurry up and produce or I’ll never hear the end of it.

In the yard I have planted Sun Gold & Large Cherry cherry tomatoes, 5 rows of Nantes carrots, mint, dill, basil, cilantro, thyme, sage, rosemary, parsley and lettuces. I already harvested the radishes, garlic and onions, but really, the kids don’t eat those, just me. I also have a patch of black raspberries and green grapes, along with an apple tree that needs to get its butt in gear and produce already.

My neighborhood is loaded with kids of all ages. I have an open door policy in my backyard garden. If the kids see something they want to pick or eat in my yard, they can have at it. I would rather have a bunch of free-ranging children eating my producing and thinking veggies and fruit are cool, than be worried about footprints, squished plants and order. Besides, they have to beat out the rabbits and squirrels, so I think it’s a fair match.
